Students of Nigerian Institute of Journalism
participated in the world’s largest celebration: Global Entrepreneurship Week
(GEW) 2014 held recently in Lagos.
The event which celebrated innovators and job
creators was organized to launch ideas for driving economic growth and expanding
human welfare.
This year’s event which started on the 17th to
20th November was themed, ‘Building Entrepreneurship Ecosystem
toward Entrepreneurship and Innovation’. The opening ceremony and lecture had
in attendance NIJ’s National Diploma 1 students, while HND 2 students attended
the exhibition held on the other days.
Students of Yaba College of Technology, who were
organizers of the event welcomed students from other secondary schools and
tertiary institutions and sold to them things they were able to make with their
entrepreneurship skills, giving inspiration to entrepreneurship students of
NIJ.
The programme which is a yearly event, marked 2014’s
edition as the eleventh of its kind tagged ‘GET CONNECTED’. The event was staged
in a unique style as it was divided into three segments starting from an Awareness
Rally, Entrepreneurship lectures, Exhibition and Free Skill Acquisition
Sessions.
According to one of the organizers, Kemi Oladotun,
the main purpose of the event was to encourage entrepreneurship skills in
students, so that they would not depend solely on the government for job
opportunities after their graduation from school.
