NIJ JOINS THE WORLD TO CELEBRATE GEW 2016

Nigerian Institute of Journalism joined the world last week to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2016.

This year’s edition which took place from November 14th to 18th was themed, ’Empower the Youth, Expand your Horizon’ focused more on building strong youthful entrepreneurs for the nation.
Students of Nigerian Institute of Journalism and others from different institutions in Lagos participated at the lecture organized to celebrate GEW at Yaba College of Technology where prolific entrepreneurs took turns to reveal the secrets behind successful entrepreneurs and how to widen their vision.

According to the principal consultant of Lonadek, Dr. Ibilola Amoo, ‘everybody can be an entrepreneur by discovering unique potentials, talent, and creating passion towards it.’

Dr. Ibilola also stated that strategy is better than plan in entrepreneurship line of business noting that if entrepreneurs have a plan, it will fail but if he has a strategy he will succeed. ‘You can have plan A, B, and C. Any of them or even the combination will be effective. Be a strategic planner. Whatever you do, do it exceptionally well’, she added.

Furthermore, in discussing the topic, ‘strengthening youth entrepreneurs through sustainable socio-economic community impact,’ Mrs. Ayarinde Adewumi, a retired lecturer of Yaba College of Technology and also an entrepreneur, urged the attendees to detach themselves from less standard goods packaging in order to encourage more patronage from customers.

According to her, to be successful entrepreneurs, they must be honest, humble, problem solvers, be ready for emergencies and put human face into their business.

In her keynote address, the institution’s director of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Mrs. V. Eniola charged the students to be strategic thinkers and planners as leaders of tomorrow.

She said, follow your dream, go for your passion, be technically minded and value creators’.
